Class Descriptions

Foundation Yoga

Hatha Yoga Flow: a flowing, alignment based class using a combination of classic poses (known as asanas) to encourage strength, flexibility and balance in body and mind.

In each class the poses can be modified from gentle to more depth as required.

We start with attention to the breath in a pranayama practice and then move through a balanced combination of sustained poses as well as poses flowing in a mindful progression from one to another; connecting breath with movement. The focus of the class varies from week to week to emphasise different parts of the body or different types of asanas. Each class is a balance of movement, strength, balance, flexibility and importantly…relaxation.

Yin Yoga

Yin and Yang are Taoist concepts and are the terms used to describe all types of phenomena. Yin is the stable, unmoving hidden aspect of things while Yang is the moving, changing, revealing aspect.

Yin Yoga is a practice of stillness; a deep, meditative yoga that works by stressing the connective tissue of our bodies. The poses focus on the spine, hips and legs. It is practiced sitting, supine and prone. The fundamental characteristic of Yin Yoga is holding the poses for several minutes.

The principle of Yin and Yang is balance. Bringing balance into your life with the appropriate amount of movement and repose, allows you find that sense of equilibrium that can nourish life.

Yin Yoga is the perfect complement to Yang (active) styles of yoga.
