Effective breathing is an integral part of the practice of yoga. In asana practise, the in breath sends oxygen to the cells of the body - the timing of the out breath can make it possible to stretch further, or to finally master a difficult posture.
Savasana is a science of relaxation - utilising the mind to release physical tension from the body and anxiety and worry from the mind. Savasana is not a passive state but a creative state where ones awareness is heightened to all bodily sensations. By focusing on the body's sensations and breathing, calming the mind, you are not thinking about the past or future, but enjoying the present moment.
